Favourite Hair Products for 2015

Tuesday, January 05, 2016

Happy New Year!!

It is 2016 already, time goes by so quickly! That said, I thought I would share my favourites products which I have used and loved in 2015, let’s go…

Crème of Nature Moisture & Shine Shampoo

This is my favourite staple sulfate-free moisturising shampoo. My hair always feels clean, hydrated with so much slip, I can glide my fingers through my hair before I have even applied conditioner.

Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm

I fell in love with this conditioner a few months ago and added it my current deep conditioner stash to use in rotation with my other staples. My hair feels like silk after using this conditioner, is super moist so I can moisturise and seal less throughout the week and detangling is a breeze. This conditioner is a little on the pricey side but as a little goes a long way, it lasts a good while.

ORS Hair Mayonnaise - I love this hair mayonnaise and it always leaves my hair feeling so strong yet moisturised after using it. I love to use this as a pre-poo mixed with extra virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil.

Crème of Nature Straight from Eden Detangling leave-in conditioner - I have just finished my first bottle of this so expect a review soon but put it this way, I'm in love, I have never known a leave-in to make my hair so soft and easy to detangle.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - This is my holy grail for pre-pooing my hair every single wash day. I can't express how much I love this oil and have used this in my hair journey prior to 2015, however, about six months ago I decided I would try using this oil to moisturise my body and I have not looked back since. My skin loves coconut oil and keeping my skin soft and moist from morning to night.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I fell in love with extra virgin olive oil this year, I love it as a as a pre-poo addition to the extra virgin coconut oil and also to add to my deep conditioners.

Lavender JBCO - I love this to oil my scalp as it keeps my new growth soft and manageable when stretching my relaxer but also, I took part in the castor oil challenge for 3 months from September to December and I joined at the extreme level which includes sealing your hair with castor oil. I decided to mix lavender JBCO & avocado oil to use for sealing throughout the challenge and can honestly say my ends have been in the best condition since doing so. For the winter months I will continue to seal with a my avocado & JBCO mix and then once the weather begins to warm up I will mix JBCO and grapeseed oil as grapeseed oil will be that little bit lighter.

Crème of Nature Edge Control

I have used other edge controls before but they have not had what it takes to lay my edges for longer than a few hours. I picked up the Crème of Nature edge control at the beginning of 2015 but didn't start using it until a few months later and I love how it lays my edges but I also love that it does not make my hair feel hard or leave any residue.

Root2Tip Honey Rain Hair Juice
This is another product that unexpectedly became a favourite of mine. I bought this to use as a leave in conditioner towards the beginning of 2015 but when I used it on damp hair, it did nothing for my hair so I stopped using it and stashed it with the rest of my products. It was only when I used this on dry hair to spritz my new growth that I realised this product deserved to shine in the spotlight. When using this leave in conditioner on my new growth, it leaves my hair moist, manageable and easy to detangle. I do not usually need to use this until I am at least 9 weeks post and I only need to spritz my new growth 2-3 times a week. My son also uses this product as a liquid before going on to seal with a thicker cream and he loves how soft and moist his hair is and the fact he no longer has to moisturise his hair on a daily basis.

And there you have my favourite products for 2015....

Mini Product Haul - June 2015

Friday, June 12, 2015

Last week I booked a spontaneous day off work and instead took a road trip with my partner up north to Nottingham. He has to travel a lot with work and as our son way away for the week with school on a residential trip, we decided why not mix business with pleasure.

We drove up last Wednesday and had a lovely evening in a different city. On Thursday morning when my partner left for his meeting, I enjoyed a nice lay-in and then got ready just in time for 12pm check-out and took a nice leisurely stroll to their city centre which was ten minutes away. The weather was beautiful and I enjoyed doing a spot of shopping and then I came across a hair shop which was not even on my radar…

I had to go in just for manners and to see what they had compared to our shops in Reading… I was pleasantly surprised with the range of products they had in store and I could not resist picking up a few items…

Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner - I like to have a few conditioners to choose from and fancied trying something different. I used this conditioner on my wash day at the weekend and I love how my hair feels, my hair was left feeling, moist, detangled and so easy to manage.
Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner - I haven't tried this yet and I'm not sure whether I will keep it in my stash to use after my Giovanni Direct Weightless Moisture Leave-In has run out or if I will use it as a moisturiser for my hair.
African Pride Shea Moisture Miracle Buttery Creme Hair Moisturiser (what a mouthful!!!) - I picked this up as my hair has been going through a dry phase and my hair was drinking my current staple moisturiser for fun. I have moisturised and sealed my hair with this all week and my hair has remained, moist and soft and by no means weighed down. So far I am loving this product.
Motions for Natural Textures Moisturizing Cleanser - I usually co-wash with moisturising conditioners but decided to pick this up and see if this made my hair feel any different when co-washing.
Motions for Natural Textures Deep Conditioning Masque - As I picked up the moisturizing cleanser, I decided to add this to my stash to use in conjunction with the cleanser.
Vita CoCo Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - I am absolutely obsessed with Coconut Oil, I use it to moisturise my skin everyday, I prepoo my hair with it almost every week, I add it to my deep conditioners and scalp oil mixes, use it as a shaving gel alternative to shave my legs and we cook with it. Need I say more!
Hair, Skin & Nails Vitamins (Holland and Barrett) -I haven't taken these tablets in about 6 months and so as Holland & Barrett has a buy one get one half price offer, I picked up a bottle for me and one for my Mum.
Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor - I love to use this as my light protein conditioner and ran out about 2 weeks ago so this is a replacement buy.
Aunt Jackie's In Control Moisturising and Softening Conditioner - I bought this product back in November last year but ended up donating it to a Hair Hamper present instead. This conditioner is not sold locally and is not a product I was desperate to try enough to order it online, however as I found it on the shelf when browsing I decided to get it since I didn't get to try it last year.

My Review:

I have been eyeing this product for some time now, but as it is not sold in my local hair shop and I haven't seen it in Pak Cosmetics Hair & Beauty Store in London, I was in no rush to purchase it.Whilst browsing the internet a few months ago, I came across this product on Nutrition Centre's website and at the time it was selling for £5.35 so I bought it straight away, only buying one as I didn't know if I would like it. It's currently selling for £6.39 which is still the cheapest I could find online.

It arrived just in time for my weekly wash day, once washed and conditioned, I sectioned my hair into four and applied a little bigger than pea size of this leave in to each section. My hair was so easy to detangle, the wide teeth comb just glided through and I loved how bouncy, soft and moist my hair was once dry via air-drying.

This product has become my staple creme leave in conditioner and I use this when doing the LCO (liquid, cream, oil) method when applying my leave ins. I will definitely purchase this again.

Product Haul - November 2014

Saturday, December 06, 2014

Last Saturday I went hair product shopping with my cousins in London. There were quite a few requests for hair product hampers from the ladies in our family so we thought we we'd get the shopping done and out of the way. I had a list of my own of things to get and ended up with a few unexpected buys.

Here is what I have bought:

Creme of Nature Straight from Eden Detangling Leave-in Conditioner

This was not on my shopping list but I picked it up without a second thought as I have heard good things about the Straight from Eden line. I thought about trying the shampoo and conditioner as well but it’s a staple leave in that I am looking for so decided not to be greedy. I used it after relaxing my hair on Sunday and loved how it made my hair feel and how easy it was to detangle. I will continue to use this for the month before I post a review.

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Conditioner

This is a staple of mine and I love love love it.

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo

Standard replacement, love this shampoo and how my hair is left feeling.

Spandex Hair Wrap

I bought this wrap to use when air-drying my hair. I used it on Sunday and wish I had discovered this sooner.

Aunt Jackie's Moisturizing & Softening Conditioner

I have wanted to get this for a while so picked it up. I am excited to give this a try.

ORS HaiRepair Nourishing Conditioner

I love this conditioner and wish I bought two bottles as I go through a lot of this.

Rat Tail Comb

My last rat tail comb broke and I have missed using it to part my hair. I bought two this time to ensure I have a back up.

Detangling comb

I use this comb on wash days to detangle my hair once I have gone through and finger detangled my hair. I have had so many of these and they somehow walk...

Spray Bottle

I love to mix up mists and DIY leave ins so decided to pick up one of these.

Mist Spray Bottle
I love spitzing my hair and new growth with water and this is the perfect little mist bottle.

Root2Tip Triple M Miracle Moisture Milk
I bought a bottle of this online last week but as I love it so much and there was only one left on the shelf, I decided to grab another bottle whilst I had the chance as I’d only regret it once I got back home.

Root2Tip Heaven's Hair Milk

I love the adult version of this moisturizer for my own hair so decided to buy this for my son to try on his hair.

Root2Tip Honey Rain Juice Detangler / Leave-in
A few British ladies have used this product and I have heard good reviews, Root2Tip also promote this product quite often on Instagram so I decided to give it a try.
