Wash Day Diary - 1 Week Post Relaxer

Sunday 11th October 2015

I could not wait to wash my hair this week which is always the case after a relaxer touch up the week before. This is how it went...

Applied coconut oil to the length of my hair followed by extra virgin olive oil and left in overnight.
The next morning, I added a little more coconut and olive oil to my hair (which already felt amazing from the overnight treatment), covered with a plastic cap and sat under the hood dryer for 15 minutes then shampooed with Crème of Nature Moisture & Shine Shampoo.

As I relaxed my hair last week, I did a medium protein treatment using ORS Hair Mayonnaise, covered with a plastic cap and sat under hood dryer for 20 minutes then allowed my hair to cool before rinsing and finger detangling. Once rinsed out, I towel dried for 5 minutes and deep conditioned using Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm, covered with a plastic cap and again used heat for 15 minutes.

I usually use Aphogee two-step protein treatment the week after my relaxer touch-up but having had a headache which had stayed for 3 days, I did not fancy sitting under the dryer for 30 minutes straight,  I just wanted a simple washday.

Once rinsed, I t-shirt dried for 45 minutes and then applied my leave-ins; Crème of Nature Straight from Eden leave-in, Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Leave-in and sealed with Crème of Nature Argan Oil, adding a few drops of Fantasia IC Olive Oil Serum and detangled my hair in sections with a with tooth comb. I tied my satin scarf around my edges and left my hair to air-dry whilst getting ready to go to my mums. My hair was 80% dry by time I left the house and I continued to air-dry once I got to my mum's with the intention of moisturising and sealing when 95% dry. Time ran away and my hair products didn’t even make it out of the bag so I just wore my hair in a loose high bun for the rest of the afternoon.

Later in the evening, I spritzed my hair with water and covered with a plastic cap for an hour whilst I watched my Sunday programmes and went on to moisturise and seal with Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturiser and my avocado & castor oil mix, oiling my scalp with my castor oil mix oo pure castor oil and Lavender JBCO finished by a 5 minute scalp massage.

I love using coconut oil as a pre-poo (pre-shampoo) / hot oil treatment and never tend to use other oils anymore, however, I decided that now the weather's getting colder, my hair could do with an extra boost of moisture so decided to add extra virgin olive oil and I am so glad I did. I will continue to use olive oil and coconut oil to prepoo over the autumn/winter and may even add a few drops of avocado oil when I stock up too.

  1. I don't know why i don't use olive oil very much in my hair. The times I have used it, my hair has felt so soft. I need to work that into my regimen. Bun looking nice and full. Love it! :)
